A mani must when throwing or attending a party: glitter polish. Julie Kandelic, creative director of Paint Box Nail Salon, shows you exactly how to get this half-moon glitter nail look in minutes.

1. Prep and paint. File your nails into the desired shape, push back your cuticles — DO NOT CUT THEM! — and apply a basecoat, like Orly Bonder. Then, paint your nails with two coats of a full-coverage gold glitter polish, like Nails Inc. Chelsea Embankment. Start applying the polish from one side to the other, creating an arch over where the moon of your nail naturally is.

2. Clean up your half-moon. Since glitter is so forgiving, if the arch over your half-moon isn't perfect, you can use an eyeliner brush dipped in acetone-based polish remover to make the semi-circle flawless.

3. Add on a holographic glitter lacquer. Give the nail more dimension with a holographic gold polish, like Deborah Lippmann Nail Lacquer "Glitter and Be Gay," making sure not to get it in the negative space of the half-moon.

4. Swipe on a multicolored glitter on top to get notice-me nails. Add on a super glittery polish, like Deborah Lippmann Nail Lacquer in "Happy Birthday," again making sure not to get any in the negative space. Then, finish with your favorite topcoat.

Design

Make summer layering no sweat.

1. Layer sheer pieces over opaque ones.Clothing in sheer chiffon, mesh, or lace will add interest to your look while still allowing you to feel every glorious, cooling breeze.

2. Look for outerwear that’s loose and drapey, but with a structured shoulder.A little structure up top means your jacket will hang off itself instead of clinging to you.

3. Ditch the sleeves.Short, boxy moto vests are totally badass, but longer vests that cover part or all of your butt are more feminine and often more flattering. Layer them over sleeved tops for an easy, casual vibe, or go for something a little sexier and sleeker by leaving your arms exposed.

4. Slip on a sheer kimono jacket.They’re the easiest way to take pretty much any outfit from boring to boho, and they are so lightweight and breathable that you’ll barely even know you’re wearing one.

5. Use color- and print-blocking to create the illusion of layering without all the bulk.Even if the effect isn’t exactly the same as layering, the overall look will still be more interesting and layer-esque than if you wore solid-color clothes instead.

6. Layer accessories instead of clothes.A belt, a necklace, and a cross-body bag can add just as much interest to your look as a jacket or vest.

7. Show off your bra, bralette, or bikini top under loose, open tops or tissue Ts.Bra closures are rarely very pretty, so pullover or front-closing bra styles are ideal for open-back tops and dresses.

8. Look for clothes that do the layering for you.Some clothes only look like they are layered, when, in reality, the under layer is attached just inside the hem of the top layer, giving you the look of layered clothing without the weight. “Layers” in contrasting colors look the most layer-y, but matching colors work too if one layer looks looser or more voluminous than the other one.

9. Give shorteralls a chance.A good pair of shorteralls should skim over your hips and thighs — not too tight, not too loose. They’re great if you’re looking for a way to wear a crop top without baring your midriff and they actually look super cool with a blazer or other structured jacket worn open or draped over your shoulders.

Although they might make your mother-in-law blush a little.

These wedding dresses prove that sexy and tasteful are not mutually exclusive. Sure, the Olds and uptights in attendance might be a little shocked at first, but they’ll recover. Besides, every bride deserves to make a dramatic entrance and nothing says “drama” like an illusion lace-covered booty — with a lining, of course.
